ACTING FOR THE CAMERA

Grades 5-12

Every wonder what it’s like to act in your favorite Disney movie or Nickelodeon show? Acting for the camera camp is great way to learn the art of acting for TV and movies!  Students will work with basic acting technique and learn how to apply it for the on-camera medium using commercial copy and scenes from age-appropriate film and television scripts.  By learning how to communicate the subtle nuances needed for this medium, students will explore what works on film versus acting for the stage.  Camp will be held in Sewickley Academy’s state of the art on-camera studio and students will receive all their on-camera work at the end of the week for viewing at home.  They will also learn what it is like to work on a film set and delve a bit into the film and TV business.  Taught by Carla Bianco, national commercial spokesperson and movie actor from Unstoppable and Promised Land.

Broadway Star Summer Intensive

Grades 5-12

Carla Bianco, who starred on Broadway as Maureen in the musical Rent, will conduct a 5-day summer intensive camp for the student who dreams of playing a lead role in their favorite Broadway musical.  Each student will be cast in a leading part from a Broadway show for the week!  They will have the opportunity to explore playing their character through songs, scenes and character work.  Students will dive deeper into vocal technique, learning the breath support for power, strength, clear resonance and tone in their vocal sound that is needed for solo singing while exploring their acting technique as it applies to their role.  Camp will culminate with a Broadway Star review for family and friends!

POP/ROCK SINGING STAR

Grades 5-12

Every dream of being on the show American Idol or The Voice?  This camp is for the student interested in singing pop/rock music and becoming a singing sensation!   Taught by Broadway star of Rent and national recording artist, students will learn basic vocal technique used for contemporary pop vocal sounds, including proper breath support, strong resonance and bright tone production.  Throughout the week, students will explore today’s popular music, along with some of the most popular songs of the 60s, 70s, 80s & 90s in various genres of pop, rock, Broadway, folk, R&B and country.  Together, we will choose the best songs with custom-made keys and arrangements that showcase each student at their best.  There will be opportunity for solo, duo and group singing.   Students will also learn basic microphone technique with a sound system in preparation for the final day presentation for family and friends!
